From Kitchsy to Contemporary | A Craft Store Cabinet Project

My little sister gave me this craft store cabinet for Christmas. She couldn't remember where she had gotten it, but had decided she did not want it anymore and asked if I had any interest. I said 'of course' and she said 'Merry Christmas'. Edit: I have since learned it was from Michael's. My suspicions were correct. :) I quickly latched on to the ugly little thing and thought it would be a perfect make-over piece. I could see that the piece had good 'bones' to it. I had two inspirational pieces in…Read more

Curved Roof Inspirations

This year, the awesome peeps at miniatures.com want to do a bit of an outreach program to connect with the miniatures' blogosphere. They are giving this year's Creatin' Contest limited edition kit to some bloggers and we take pictures and blog about our process of doing the kit. Pretty simple. I was asked to participate in this little blogging adventure, and I jumped at the opportunity. One of the fun perks with this is they gave us each a Pinterest board to post to as well. Check out mine! I had previously taken one…Read more

Holiday Sleds

Our miniatures club has been working on these sleds for the past few months. Originally we painted a bunch of them and then the sleds went to the local library for the children's craft day for the kids to decorate as cute winter scenes. We ended up with some left over and we decorated them ourselves for our upcoming holiday party to use as centerpieces. I made the first two pictured and the third one was made by a few of our members who have been into miniatures for over 20 years. I…Read more

Kickstarter Recap

Wow that was an intense month! Thank you to everyone who participated in our Kickstarter campaign, either by contributing or sharing. I wanted to create a little recap of the campaign from my perspective, as it was certainly a new and different experience seeing things from the creator side of things rather than the backer for a change. These graphs are from Kicktraq, a website that tracks Kickstarter campaigns. I am glad to have access to so many different metrics, about halfway through I got overwhelmed with my own note keeping and being…Read more
Dresser Rehab Project

Dresser Rehab Project

This is the little dresser that I started with. I've had it for about 20 years and I've *never* liked that red stain color. I also thought the top drawers were too skinny and they were useless. Time to do something about it! It's perfect for a rehab project! First thing I did was take apart the drawers. The top ones were just tossed aside, but the bottom ones needed to be broken apart and put back together again with more space. I have no idea why the sides of the drawers weren't actually…Read more

Dollhouse Renovation Part 1

For my birthday I went to the local Goodwill and just by happenstance, a dollhouse was there. I knew I had to buy it, even if it was an ugly shade of pink and very fussily detailed. For $50 though, it was worth the price. The wallpaper inside *could NOT* have been uglier! (Actually, looking through the internet I've since discovered there are far far uglier dollhouses.) The pink in the living room was actually kind of nice, but I figured I'd redo everything while I was at it. I let my dolls have…Read more

The Last Randy Himes Workshop

Today was the last day of the final workshops being offered by one of Cincinnati's finest model furniture makers, Randy Himes. He was cleaning up and getting rid of his leftover kits that have been kicking around since he retired from models over 10 years ago. I was lucky enough to have joined my NAME chapter just in time to learn from one of our Greats. The piece I chose to do was the Pembroke Table. I picked it and kit-bashed it as best I could to make it a fit in a…Read more
